Species:

CITES protects animal and plant species.  It designates species by their scientific name, which consists of the genus name followed by the species name.

Rollover the word species for a full definition.

For example:
Genus Species
Crocodylus acutus acutus
Crocodylus cataphractus cataphractus

Occasionally, you will see the abbreviation 'sp.' or 'spp.' next to the names. The abbreviation "sp." is used to denote one species and "spp." all species.
