Subspecies:
When CITES protects a species, all subspecies
which belong to that species are also protected.
The Convention can also protect a single subspecies or even a particular
geographically separate population
of that species.
Rollover the words subspecies and geographically separate population for a full definition.
For example: | |||
Genus | Species | Subspecies
Amazona | autumnalis | autumnalis
Amazona | autumnalis | lilacina |
Occasionally, you will see the abbreviations 'ssp.' or 'sspp.' next to the names. The abbreviation "ssp." is used to denote one subspecies and "sspp." to denote all subspecies.
