CITES Permit Exemptions

The text of the Convention provides for the possibility that CITES specimens do not require permits. The permit exemptions apply only:

The CITES Permit Exemptions Summary lists these exemptions and the conditions that apply. This document can also be accessed under "References" on the navigation bar.

The exemptions only apply if the conditions mentioned in the CITES Permit Exemption Summary have been complied with. All other CITES specimens are subject to the normal CITES requirements. This applies also to diplomats, or people with a temporary diplomatic status such as UN peacekeepers.

Note that many Parties have taken stricter domestic measures with regard to personal and household effects. Check therefore carefully what your national legislation specifies with regard to these exemptions.

Remember... these exemptions do not apply to commercial quantities.
