Lesson Summary
To sum up, the CITES Appendices and the Checklist of CITES Species are used to help determine whether specimens are protected and what permit requirements apply. To do this:
- Find the species in the CITES Appendices Index.
- Turn to the page indicated to determine what Appendix the species falls under.
- If you can not find the species in the Appendices, look in the Checklist of CITES Species.
- Look on the How CITES Regulates Trade Chart to find out what permits are required.
- Determine if a CITES permit exemption applies.
Now that you know how to use the CITES documents, click on the elephant to move to the next lesson Understanding Non-Detriment Findings.
