CITES Tools

When you encounter plant and animal specimens during the course of your work, you must first determine what they are and whether they are protected.

With the number of plant and animal species in the tens of thousands, it would be impossible for you to be able to identify them all.

To help, a number of tools are available to you including:

  • The CITES Appendices and the Checklist of CITES species; and
  • Identification Materials

You will have an opportunity to learn more about these tools and practice using them as you progress through this lesson.
